It takes a little effort, [he smiles, amused. She always has such confidence in his abilities, far beyond his own knowledge or belief. Sometimes it's ego-stroking; other times it's heartwarming. Today it's mixed.
He's prepped a couple of ethers, just in case, though with her support he doubts they'll be needed. He wanted to ensure that he had the stamina to make a proper night of it.]
Most of it is the element itself- I usually run out of that and have to recharge before I get too many done. That might not be an issue with you here.
[ He might not see her expression, but he'll certainly be able to hear a small intake of breath as if she's about to ask more questions-- questions like, does he mean he literally stores fire in these flasks?!-- but then she refrains. She'll find out soon enough.
A hand goes to his thigh, patting it because it's the most accessible part of him. ]
Oh, you know me. I've got fire to spare. [ And because she can't help herself: ] It's because my love is always burning for you.
[He smirks, and the expression is audible in his voice as he responds.]
Nerd. [He kisses her cheek appreciatively, then lifts a hand and rests his elbow on his knees so that his arm is outstretched, palm up to demonstrate.] Okay, can you call some fire out? On your hand, like this. Just keep it burning, as long as you can.
[ She chuckles softly when he kisses her cheek, tipping her face against his lips.
Her hand outstretches in turn, and soon a steady flame appears, hovering just above the palm of her hand. It burns without fuel, and it gives off no smoke. ]
Flame: ready.
[ Even if her tone is light, she is absolutely focusing on what he's doing and what he will be doing next, watching his own hands for any sign of his magic. ]
[Perhaps a little too on the nose. And it might be his last (bad) joke for a bit; going forward he needs to concentrate on what he's doing, lest an elemental flask explode in their faces. Not a great look when they're both so close to the action, and he'd feel bad even if she can heal herself. Hell, he'd feel bad because he likes his face the way it is, thanks.
The outstretched hand tilts towards hers, and he focuses on the fire she's manifesting, the energy fueling it. He uses his own magic to pull, drawing the flames towards his fingers. It weaves around his hand, transitioning from tongues of fire to swirls of white and blue energy, infusing themselves into his skin and crawling up his forearm. It looks gentle, a slow absorption similar to how she shares her energy with him, and it might feel the same way, too, except the pull comes from his end this time.
He doesn't go for long, just a handful of seconds to let them both experience it, and when he stops the energy swirls one last time before fading away, drawn fully into his skin as if it was never there. He tilts a bit, looking at her.]
[ Her eyes widen as she begins to feel the pull of her flame away from her palm, and that's-- different. Very different, to have someone summoning the fire she manifests. When the flames begin to shape then bend towards him, drawing a little too close, she tenses slightly against his back, but understanding that he's done this before, doesn't snuff the fire out from her palm.
Her patience pays out, and the flames that he calls towards his fingers transform into the signature blue of his power, and then they are absorbed into his skin. ] ...Wow...
[ She still has fire in the palm of her hands, but it's his palm she's looking at, watching as the last flicker of his magic fades away upon his skin. ]
Just like that-- it doesn't burn you?
[ Oh right, he asked a question. ] Ah, I feel fine.
No, it doesn't burn. It's energy before it hits me- the same goes for lightning and ice, when I can find the elemental deposits for it. And as long as it doesn't hurt you, I guess this means we can make fire flasks any time we might need them.
[Which would admittedly be convenient, even if the actual need for fire and combat is limited in town. In some ways the reassurance is more meaningful than the spell itself.]
[ Disissing the fire in her palm it goes to cup over his hand that had siphoned the flames from her. When she had been expecting his palm to be warmed, it's not. The feel of his hand is his usual temperature.
She's definitely wide-eyed now. ] With an ability like that... you could negate any elemental damage coming at you.
Nah, I wish. [Again, her confidence is touching, but she's wrong, and it would be dangerous to claim otherwise.] It doesn't work fast enough to absorb all of it, especially if it's spread out like an attack. And it has to be, um... pure, in a sense? Usually I pull it directly from the earth, where the elements gather in a particular way. I wasn't even sure if it would work with your fire, but I had a hunch.
[Their powers had blended together so well in previous attempts, he couldn't help believing that this, too, would work. He's glad that was proven true.]
[ Her shoulders dip when he answers her, but she's not too disappointed to hear that that's not one of his additional powers. He's well strong enough already without something like elemental-negation at his command. ]
Well... Now you have a fire that isn't effected by rain. [ When released it can cause normal fires-- it's definitely bright and hot enough to do so-- but unlike a real fire Blade, it has no weakness to water. Because she's not truly a Blade in the first place. ] ...Is it... inside your armory, then?
Not yet. Right now it's just with me, though I don't know what makes it different. I guess because it's a power, and not an item? Though Ignis is an elemancy specialist, so he can use it, too. Magic's weird, but you knew that.
[He clenches his fist then unclenches to flex his fingers, still feeling the tingle, soft and subtle but palpable. Then he reaches over and grabs the first flask, holding it between both hands over her lap.]
But that's what these are for: so I can put my spells in the armory, and then anyone can use them. And it means I'm able to make more advanced magic when it's quiet like this, since I can't do it on the fly.
[He wouldn't abuse this power, just because he can. He knows enough of her past to recognize the implications of using her for her power; even incidentally, he wants no part of that.]
[ ....She's okay with it. She's more than okay with it, and that thought alone is surprising, that she would be so willing and ready to share her power with him in this way. Merely enhancing his own by providing him excess power is one thing, but to hand him her fire is another, and-- she's still okay with that.
Pyra's smile can be heard in her voice, and she manages to crane her neck and turn just enough so that she can see him from the corner of her eyes. ]
Please... I want you to have it. My fire, I mean... Ah, and if others need it, too.
[ It'll be there so he can protect himself with it, or by extension, those he trusts with access to his armory. A little bit of her fire isn't going to kill anyone, anyway. ]
[He wanted to hear it said, though, and for it to be her call. His fingers curl beneath hers, and he leans in, tucking his head against her shoulder so he can see better, and so that they can work side by side.]
I'm gonna sweeten the pot anyway- I was thinking of making Healcasts. Kinda like... healing fire.
[He switches hands, shifting one away from the flask to call a potion from the armory into it.]
It's dual-use. It hurts whatever you throw it at, but it also heals the one who throws it, and it doesn't hurt anyone you're fighting alongside like the fire usually would.
Well, let's start with one, and see how far we get from there.
[He bumps his cheek against hers, pleased, and gives the flask a little hop against his fingers. It rolls an inch, revealing a small lid to be twisted open on one side.]
Not Dad, no. He doesn't need to use flasks, actually- he's got way better control of elemancy on his own. Ignis dug up some ancient text from the library back when I was still having trouble getting any magic going. I think he was tired of listening to me complain about it.
[Or more that Ignis was worried about his lack of progress and the disheartening result it had on him over time... he'd always been prone to bouts of depression and self-doubt, and Ignis liked to push his limits and encourage him to try different things to see what stuck. He had success with some things more than others- ways for Noctis to access his power was one he'd work hard for, especially after meeting Luna.]
There was a king generations back who had a similar problem as me- wasn't from a daemon attack, but he had less power than his older brother. When he became king, he had to step up, so I guess he did a bunch of research on charging items with elemental energy. Elemancy on weapons is what Specs got out of it, and flasks worked pretty well for me.
[ She can imagine how it might have been for him and Ignis when they were younger, one researching and helping the other learn how to create these flasks, and the two of them discovering something new together. They must have been so excited, the first time they crafted a flask or imbued weapons with elements...
Now, he's showing her how he does it. ]
If one king can figure out how to do something like that... there's probably other possibilities with your magic that you can invent yourself, too, isn't there? [ And she knows he's creative enough for these sorts of things, what with his artistry and design. The way he uses his magic might never be a tradition passed down to another, but... she thinks that if he decides to make something with his own magic, it'd be worth celebrating anyway. ]
We were still learning that on the road, actually. The book didn't go much into adding other ingredients- it was kinda something we started messing with at havens. I don't remember exactly how it started. Specs was cooking, and some kind of monster parts got into a flask... it ended up a hell of an explosion when we threw it.
[He uncaps the potion and pours it into the flask. The liquid pools in the base, glowing brightly as it falls and lighting the orb from within, where it begins to pulls gently, absorbing the curative magic much like the potion does when its contents are transformed into a curative.]
I was never that big on chemistry, but every time we played with elemancy at camp we all kinda became scientists, arguing over what to try putting in it next.
